The Kansas State Board of Embalming has been in existence since May of 1907. The name was changed to the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts in 1985. The board operates under K.S.A. 65-1701 et. seq. and K.S.A. 74-1701a et. seq.

Mission

The mission of the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts is to ensure that licensees perform their professional services in a manner providing maximum protection of the health, safety and welfare for the people of Kansas. In addition, our mission is to inform the public of the laws and options available to them when dealing with the funeral profession.

Philosophy

The Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts will act in accordance with the highest standards of ethics, accountability, efficiency and openness. We affirm that the activities of the funeral profession involve public and private trust. We approach our activities with a deep sense of purpose and responsibility. The public and regulated profession alike can be assured of a balanced and sensible approach to regulation.
